The end of season Brisbane Athletic dinner & trophy presentation
The end of season Brisbane Athletic dinner & trophy presentation was held last Saturday night at the Brisbane Athletic Club.
The club is managed and directed by Carlos Ferreira who is from Portugal however most of the players are Brazilians. This is a typical and traditional custom for the Club: every year they have an opening and end of season ceremony.
It’s the occasion for all players to get together to laugh and talk about the previous season.
It was a great dinner ceremony for all players that attended the event and special guests as well; it was a great occasion to celebrate the end of season for Church League.
There was a great buffet dinner, beautiful decorations and a band, all of which were provided by Brisbane Athletic for all the people that are involved in the club.
Brisbane Athletic currently plays in Church League with 2 teams, top team players in first division and second team players in second division.
For the top team, in division 1.
DIVISION 1: CHAMPIONS 2014
They have successfully defended their QCSA 1st place standing for the 3rd year in a row with 40 points in what was easily the toughest QCSA competition to date. It was a highly successful season with 70 goals scored for just the division 1 team.
It was an especially fruitful season for Murilo Gomes who scored 32 goals in total during the QCSA competition. He received two trophies; one for the top scorer goal and another for being recognised as the best player of the year.
Cristiano Silva received a special trophy for merit – for being an exemplar player who didn’t miss any official games and turned up for all training sessions. He also did not receive any yellow cards during competition.
Brisbane Athletic has another thing to be proud of. Most of the players from Brisbane Athletic were invited to defend and represent Queensland in Sydney.
DIVISION 2:
The Brisbane Athletic second team, division 2, achieved four positions in the competition losing the game 2 x 1 against Westminister Warriors in extra time.
Brisbane Athletic posted a special note for all players in second division on the Facebook Page. We would like to thank the players who played in Division 2 immensely as they have been heavily hindered due to the mass representation of the North Zone at the QCSA where the majority of the players were injured. There were many highlights this season for this team (Including holding out 15 men with 8 for a 1-0 loss and then beating them 2 weeks later). It has been a great season and we hope to continue it into 2015.
The ceremony concluded with Carlos Ferreira, coach and president of the club, expressing his thoughts in a speech and saying a big thank you to all the players. He also called everyone to join the 2015 competition season.
