Portal Gringo News covers the Brazilian and wider Latin American community in Brisbane and South East Queensland: the events, the people, the paperwork, and the ordinary business of building a life a long way from home.

We are a small newsroom. That shapes what we do: we would rather publish fewer stories that we have checked than fill a page with material we have not.

What we cover

Our beat is the community here, not Brazil in general. When we cover something that happened elsewhere, it is because it changes something for people living in Queensland — a visa rule, a consulate service, a flight route, a result that the community will be talking about on Monday.

• World — what happens abroad that lands here.
• Mix — culture, food, sport, music and the events that hold the community together.

Who publishes this

Portal Gringo News is published by Gringo Media, an independent local business in Brisbane. It has no political affiliation, and it is not owned or funded by any government, party, church or foreign body.

The newsroom is small and its members are named. Every article carries the name of whoever wrote it, and every author has a page listing what they have written.

How it is paid for

The portal is funded by advertising and by sponsored content bought by local businesses. Nothing else pays for it: there is no subscription, no paywall, and no payment from any of the organisations we cover in exchange for coverage.

Advertising is sold by the commercial side and has no say over what the newsroom publishes. Anything paid for is labelled as such, in the article itself, without the reader having to look for it. If we ever get that wrong, the corrections policy applies to it exactly as it applies to a wrong date.
