Terms of use

The short version of what you can and cannot do with what is here.

Reading and sharing

The site is free to read, and you are welcome to link to anything on it. Quote a passage with attribution and a link, as anyone would. Republishing a whole article, or using our photographs elsewhere, needs our permission first — ask, and we will usually say yes.

What you send us

When you send us a tip, a photograph or a letter, you keep it — but you give us permission to publish it and to keep it in the archive, and you confirm it is yours to send. Tell us if you are sending something on condition that we do not publish it.

Comments

Comments are yours: you keep what you write, and you are responsible for it. By posting you give us permission to publish it on the site and keep it in the archive, and you confirm it is yours to post.

We can remove any comment and close any account, without notice, when something breaks the comment policy. Removing a comment is a moderation decision, not a judgement about you.

Accuracy and links

We publish in good faith and we correct what we get wrong. Nothing here is legal, financial, immigration or medical advice; for your own situation, ask someone qualified to answer it.

We link to other sites where it helps the reader. We are not responsible for what those sites publish or do.

Advertising

Advertisements and sponsored articles are the responsibility of the advertiser and are labelled. Buying advertising does not buy news coverage — see our editorial principles.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of Queensland, Australia. Nothing here removes a right you have under Australian Consumer Law.
