Social Football in Brisbane: a chance to stay fit and honour the good old times

Many international students and specially males, come to Brisbane and soon they start to miss being part of a soccer team and how they played on a regular basis for their “barrio” (neighbourhood). Although nothing compares to the excitement of a good match with your neighbours as we do back home, Brisbane offers you the chance to join teams to gather around some sport activities.

Social Sport Australia has been created to fulfil that need for community enjoyment around different physical activities. It is a community that gathers people from different backgrounds to practice different ways to keep fit, particularly Football. These are the three premises of Social Sport Australia: It’s about creating community fitness through social sport, bringing back the excitement of playing social sport into your busy lifestyle, and gathering like-minded people in a friendly environment while having fun.

For international students and people who love football this is an ideal place to start. Santiago Ivar, from Spain, says "Joining a team is a perfect way to meet new people, make new friends, enjoy practicing your sport and feel your heart bitting into social affairs. A good way to keep fit your mind and your body, and also gives you the chance to be open to new relationships building new Bridges. Australia is a big social country, and we are now part of it"

For those interested, the next appointment is tonight (Wednesday night) at 6:30pm. The games are held every week and are only $10, you get to play on a professional football pitch with quality equipment including bright colored bibs to easily identify team members during play. The games are played at the Griffith University, Mt Gravatt Campus oval right next to the Pacific Motorway (short 100m walk from the Griffith University busway station on the South East Busway).
