Let the Games begin: One day to Glasgow

70 nations get ready for this highly anticipated event: The Glasgow Commonwealth Games. It’s only one day to go before the Scottish city welcomes athletes and spectators to Celtic Park, where the opening ceremony will be held.

Between the performers is Rod Steward, Susan Boyle, Andy Mac Donald and Nicola Benedetti. Their talent will be surrounded by audacious, visual and musical displays and also theatrical moments as indicated on the official Glasgow 2014 website.

Apart from the 4,500 athletes, the organizers expect around 40,000 spectators at Celtic Park and tv transmission for around 1 billion viewers.

An interesting fact about the opening ceremony is the participation of regular Glasgow citizens who will represent the 70 competing nations, since every nation will be introduced to the crowed by a different citizen.

For David Zolkwer, Glasgow 2014 head of ceremonies, the ceremony will become a genuine and distinctive Glasgow story: “…we are going to be irreverent, funny, principled, sincere, inclusive, personal, direct. We are talking down the lens, we are not asking the world to watch a show."

In the meantime, Champion cyclist Anna Meares has been unveiled as Australia's flag bearer for the opening ceremony. The Opening ceremony will be transmitted on Channel One next Thursday, 4pm
