Copa America’ gathers Latinos in Brisbane

The tournament returns for special centenary edition to celebrate 100 years

The soccer is the most popular game in America, especially in Latin countries. This month is happening, in the United States, the Centenary Copa America. This is the first ‘Copa America’ outside of South America, and since here, in the other side of the world, the football fans are following the competition, which began at last 3 June.

The centenary edition of the tournament kicked off in Santa Clara, with a play between USA and Colombia, when the Colombians Team won the game 2x0. Still in Group A, Paraguay tied with Costa Rica (0x0).

In Group B, Brazil and Ecuador played to a 0-0 draw and Peru beat Hait 1-0. Now in Group C, Mexico got the win with most goals of the first round. The Mexicans beat Uruguay 3-1. In the other game of this group, Venezuela played against Jamaica, and got a win 1-0. In Group D there were two victories by the same score: 2-1. Argentina beat Chile and Panama beat Bolivia.

On this Wednesday, Colombia returned to the field and got another victory. The game, against Paraguay, was watched for many Colombians in The Victory’s, in the City Centre. The Colombians chaired with great enthusiasm. Tomorrow is the turn of Brazil. The team will play agains Haiti. In the other match, Ecuador will face Peru.

The competition is an official agreement between the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) and CONCACAF (CONCACAF).

The competition has been expanded for this landmark edition with the 10 South American representatives (Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia and Paraguay) is being complemented by six teams from the rest of the Americas (USA, Costa Rica Panama, Mexico, Jamaica and Haiti).

The final will take place on 26 June in the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
