Aussie NBA Champions Patty Mills and Aron Bynes bring trophy on tour down under

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk welcomed Aussie NBA Champions Patty Smith and Aron Bynes  to Brisbane at King George Square last Saturday, in one stage of the tour that the San Antonio Spurs players have been doing around Australia during the last week bringing the NBA trophy to the aussie fans.

“This is the first time the NBA championship trophy, otherwise known as the Larry O’Brien Trophy, has been outside of the United States, so this is a special chance for Brisbane fans to see the trophy in person,” Quirk said. “Fans will also have the opportunity to celebrate with Patty and Aron and chat to them about their international success.

“Each of the nine San Antonio Spurs players born outside of the US had the opportunity to take the NBA championship trophy to their home countries, and this is a wonderful opportunity for Brisbane fans to support our international sporting heroes”

The appearance on the street included speeches, interviews, and photos with fans and other aussie basketball celebrities, like the aussie player Nathan Jawai, amongst others.

During their tour, The NBA San Antonio Spurs stars visited Melbourne on Wednesday, Sydney on Thursday, Canberra on Friday, Brisbane on Saturday, Cairns on Sunday, (which is Bynes' hometown) and Torres Strait Islands on Monday

Also, earlier this week, Mills, Baynes and the NBA championship trophy ambushed a live cross by Fox Sports reporter Julian de Stoop, who mistook them for rowdy Collingwood fans, and upset pushed to the injured Mills.
