Young LGBT Latinos Rejected By Latino Community

Evidence shows that Latinos are more accepting of the LGBT community in their home countries but not in America.

The world is slowly becoming more and more accepting of the LGBT community. Though equality for lesbians, gays, bi-sexual, and transgender people has not fully developed, many countries have come a long way from arresting their citizens simply for being a homosexual.

However, reports conducted by the Human Rights Campaign are saying that although South America as a whole is more accepting of the LGBT community in percentage in comparison to other countries, young Latinos living in the U.S are identifying that they experience greater rejection from their Latino community.

But how does this make sense? Latino communities in their home countries in South America are more accepting of young LGBT Latinos but in the U.S they are not.

America’s archaic view of gay and transgender people is infamous, though not all Americans have this view. So, is America’s infamous prejudice against the LGBT community beginning to rub off on Latino communities residing in the U.S? The evidence says yes, more than half of young LGBT Latinos living in the U.S feel that they have no one to turn to when dealing with issues associated with being homosexual or transgender.
