The Other Side of the Coin by Lucas Aguiar

Gringo News had an exclusive interview with Lucas Aguiar where he tells us what really happened back in Massachussets.

Lucas aguiar:

I would like to tell a bit of my story to all those who judge me and who throw stones without even knowing my history and how everything occurred.

Firstly I must not give satisfaction to anybody, but I would like to tell a little of my life story to you guys especially to all the people that I have met in Australia.

Gringo News: Who are you?

I am a Mineiro who was born in Minas Gerais, Brazil and raised in the region of Azucena until I was 16.

Gringo News: Why did you move to the USA?

My parents migrated to the United States in 1998 for a better life and to provide a better future for our family.

In this period we lived with my grandparents on their farm for two years until 2000. Then, my mother got her visa and took my sister, my brother and me

to Boston USA.

All the dreams that my family had come true and God blessed us.

I moved to Massachussets when I was 16 years old. I was a little bit sad in the beginning but I dreamt of being a soccer player, as many young Brazilians dream.

Gringo News: What did you do back in the USA?

When I arrived in Marlborough I went straight into high school.

My first year was very difficult and I did not understand the language so I was completely lost. I tried my best to learn English and in 6 months I was already speaking a lot.

I was always very social and friendly and even though people are very friendly where I come from, I was envied by them.

When I turned 17 I got a job and bought my first car, around the time that the first Fast and Furious movie came out!

In Marlborough everybody started to lower their cars and put big sound systems in their cars and I did the same things. As a result, I became very popular and my friendships grew a lot!

I was happy and very anxious with everything that was happening so suddenly.

Gringo News: Tell me about you and your involvement with people?

I liked to date a lot and to be around girls, and I was always partying and enjoy my life. My teenage years were the best time of my life, and I know this is a time I will not get back.

When I was 19 years old I bought my turn tables, CDJ Technis MP3.

I started DJ’ing at several parties in basements and backyards, for anniversaries and weddings in Boston. I loved this and for me it was my new profession. I also started playing reggaeton, a genre that I love.

I picked up lots jobs as a DJ and I played in various nights clubs at the time. Again, I became very popular. But, back during that time, I had one problem that even now I would like to change! I trust people too easily.

When I was down I had no one to support me. Out of the seventy-odd friends that I had, only about eight would stick around to support me through rough times. However until now I have continued my friendships with these friends.

My first job in America was cleaning at a computer company. Then I started working as a dishwasher in a restaurant in Marlborough. Hence I was always looking to move to a better job.

I worked with paint, and later worked on asphalt with big Roney MacDonalds.

Then I started work detailing cars, which was when I discovered the profession that is my true passion. I worked for several concessionaires throughout Massachussets.

Gringo News: Tell me what happened on the night you met that girl?

In 2007 I was invited to a party at a nightclub in Worcester. I was already 22 years old, and I was driving my blue Benz C 230 KOMPRESSOR. I was very excited about the car, and popular with friends, which I loved.

That day I received a message from a friend of mine who said her friend would like to date me. I was enjoying my night as usual and I had already had a lot of drinks, so I just said to my friend I would talk to her friend later.

I clearly remember that girl coming directly to me and starting to kiss me, and in that moment I did not think to ask about her age or anything similar.

The thought never crossed my mind for two reasons:

First, to enter clubs in Boston you must be at least 18 years old and to drink alcohol you must be at least 21 years old.

Secondly, she was a tall girl, taller than me.

Gringo News:  Who was the girl?

The girl was also a Brazilian, from Governor Valadares.

I was with her for few hours in the night club. After that I went to drop her home around 4am, but before I dropped her off we had sex in the car. When I arrived at her house, her father was outside the house waiting for her, and he was very angry and swearing. He wrote down my car number plate.

The next day in the morning around 6am, two police officers knocked on my door. They said that I had dated an underage girl, so I went with the cops to the police station and I told the whole truth of what had happened the previous night.

From that moment I started to have the worst days of my entire life, as the cops said I was being accused of raping a child.

I started crying and sobbing and the world collapsed for me.

In addition this girl contact me when I was in brazil a few times trough msn and she was saying she would come to Governador Valadares as well.

Gringo News: Why didn’t the girl tell the police that she had agreed to be with you?

The girl told the police that she wanted to date me, but because she was underage her words had no value. Her parents were accusing me not the girl.

Gringo News: How about witnesses, the friend who delivered the message to you on that night? How about the medical examination?

For the first court appearance I did not bring any witnesses and after moving to a different city, I lost contact with the girl. Yes she had the medical examination which confirmed that she was not a virgin when she met me.

Gringo News: What kind of relationship did you have with her parents?

I had never met her or her parents until that night, and I didn’t realize that she was causing trouble for her parents. I was the guy with bad luck that night!

Gringo News: Why is your name on the list of wanted people for child rape in US?  What happened next?

I moved from that state as soon as I started going to court. I went to court for about eight months and nothing was resolved. I have never been to jail.

I had rights, and the accusations were not proven, so I tried hard to prove that I did what I did because the girl wanted it, not me.

Eventually my lawyer and a friend who was a police officer advised us to return as a family to Brazil, because the only sentence I could get was to be deported.

My mother had been sick and not sleeping well because she was worrying about the situation. So my parents and I decided to move back to Brazil.

I felt like the situation was so unfair. The only thing that gave me strength was my family and my real friends and my ex-girlfriend in Brazil who got back together with me. After I left the United States I felt like all my dreams were shattered.

Gringo News: When you left the US, why didn’t you leave a lawyer to continue to represent you in court?

Well, it was our bad mistake. We did not think about this. We just left because my lawyer told us to, and the sentence could have only been deportation anyway.

Gringo News: Did you know that your name was on the wanted list of the Massachussets police?

Yes I knew. Because I was in Brazil and I stopped going to court, they put me on their wanted list.

Gringo News: How do you feel about it now?

It is so hurtful to see all these accusations against me.

Gringo News: Tell us why you decided to come to Australia?

When I arrived in Brazil, I lived in Goiania for 7 months. Then I went to see my friends and family in Minas Gerais.

I stayed there for about one year and nine months until a friend gave me the idea to come to Australia.

I didn’t think twice about coming to Australia, and I felt that it could be the place to go and start over with my life. I fell in love with this country in general; the people, beaches and beautiful weather. I met several nice people, made a lot of friends and got a good job.

 I was planning to apply for a permanent visa soon, but unfortunately the collapsed started again. I applied for my visa with my name and everything went well and Australia approved my visa.

Gringo News: Why did you tell your boss the truth?

My boss on the Gold Coast became my friend, we spend most of the time together working, He trusted me with important jobs and expensive cars to take care of. He was so nice to me, and I thought that if I didn’t tell him about my history, none of this would be happening all over again.

Gringo News: Why did your Boss call the police if you were friends?

We started having some issues because he was lying to me, about prices and services. He would tell me that he would pay me a certain amount, but when the job was finished he would pay me less, so I wasn’t happy about that.

So I simply left the job and started working for another company that was a rival company. He was very disappointed and started doing a google search about me because I have told he what happened in the past, which is how he found out about my history in the USA.  

Gringo News: What was your reaction when you saw the news about your past surfacing?

Actually my Australian close friend called me and told me what was happening. She saw the headline on the Brazilian community on Facebook.

 When I saw the article in the newspaper I felt really bad, but at the same time I knew that God is always with me and will never leave me. 

The people that claim to be my friends should have asked me about the situation. I don’t like to talk about it because it is a painful reminder. But all my closest friends know my story.

Gringo News: What about your future in Australia?

The Australian department said I have not committed any crime here. Also the USA does not want to bring me over there since no decision has been reached.

To stay in Australia I need to clear that up first, and then I will be free to return here. For the future, I will make sure I fight for my rights and get the matter finalised.

Gringo News: Where are you now?

 I am in the immigration department in Perth, Monday , January 26, 2015 with a 9:30 PM not flight scheduled to Brazil yet.

I do not know what day I will get to Brazil but I'm going back with a clear conscience. I spoke with my parents about everything that happened and we are already providing a lawyer for my case in America.

I have decided I will fight my problem face to face until the end.

Yesterday I told my sister that I personally want to go straight to Boston and settle this once and for all. I wish all the best to you who judge me and speak very badly about me in all of this.
