Guzman Y Gomez- The familiar taste

When you travel overseas, you may crave for homemade food. The feeling of homesickness might be relieved by having some authentic Latin American food. Nachos, Burritos and Tacos might just pop-up in your mind. But where can you find these dishes you have been missing for so long? I asked a few Latin American friends where I could get affordable authentic South American food. They all say, “Why don’t you go to Guzman Y Gomez?” So, here is my food journey of “native Latin American flavor” in Brisbane.

“Sharing the love of Latin” through Mexican food

Steven Marks started the first Guzman Y Gomez restaurant in Sydney in late 2006. The name and logo of the restaurant was originally inspired by his two childhood friends. He named the restaurant “Guzman Y Gomez” (Abbreviated GYG) in their honour. In the beginning he worked hard, in investing five million dollars to create the most authentic Latin taste. He employed Mexican suppliers, a Mexican Chef and Latin American staff. All these practices helped his brand expand quickly and beyond NSW. Now, there are already 12 franchises in the Brisbane region, and t has grown into a well-liked brand.

A place to feel belonging

Alissa is a Colombian, who has been in Brisbane for 7 years. She comes to Guzman Y Gomez to catch up with her old friends every month. She says, “I have gotten used to the taste of the Latin food. This restaurant has got pretty much the same taste as our food, so we like to come often.” She said she is satisfied with the quality and price of the food. She also likes to recommend this restaurant to her friends.

Sam is Australian. He likes the taste of the food at GYG, and he usually visits the restaurant every week. He finds both the speed of service and the flavour of the food attractive. He also likes to invite his friends to have lunch together. Luckily, they like the restaurant as much as he does.

Kelly and Jane come from the Gold Coast. They chose GYG for lunch because they enjoy the environment, fresh food and affordable prices. They think GYG is nice place for friends to have lunch together as it gives them a nice feeling and has a laid-back environment. They would choose to come to the restaurant again in the future.
