Rye Hunt disappearance: Brazilian police are investigating the discovery of a body

  Brazilian police are investigating the discovery of a body on a beach on Wednesday morning, and will carry out DNA tests to determine whether it is that of the missing traveller. According the Brazilian Media, the body was found on the peaceful Guaratiba beach, 50 kilometres from the centre of Rio, early on Wednesday, local time.

Residents noticed vultures on the white sand and then spotted a clothed, decomposed body covered in sand. Two firemen arrived and put the body, which was dressed in blue shorts and a light-coloured shirt, in a black body bag. The body has not yet been identified.

In a statement, Mr Hunt's family said they were disgusted at the actions of some Brazilian media outlets following the discovery of the body. Lead investigator Elen Souto said a DNA test would be carried out to confirm the identity.

"We are disgusted that photos of the body have been published by media outlets and sent directly via text to family members by Brazilian journalists, asking us to confirm the identity," the statement said. The family also asked the media to respect their privacy.
