Riverfire Lights Up the Brisbane Sky

To mark the end of the famous

Brisbane Festival (6^th -27^th September, 2014), the

third biggest city in Australia put on a glamourous 30

minute fireworks display. The fireworks were let off

from seven different points along the river

including Southbank Parklands, Kangaroo Point

Cliffs, Victoria Bridge, Captain Burke

Park, Wilson's Lookout, Dock Street and the City

Riverwalk at Riverside.

The spectacle attracted everyone’s attention including residents, tourists and of course, students. Spectators were

able to watch the fireworks show from diverse vantage points. Accompanied by friends or partners, some even said

it felt like New Year’s Eve.

The English language students Fernanda Andrade from Brazil and Eliana Rodríguez from Colombia, were amongst the

crowd checking out the fireworks from Riverside.

"I watched the fireworks from Riverside because it was my friend’s suggestion. Someone told her that this place had

a stunning view, much better than Southbank. I watched the New Year Eve fireworks last year, so we decided to go

there to see this show. I was impressed by the fireworks cascading from the bridge. It was incredible", said Andrade.

"My flatmates and I planned to watch the fireworks from Riverside because last year someone was there and told us

that one it is the best points to watch the show. For me it was amazing! The best moment was when the fireworks

started to come down from the bridge" explained Eliana.

From the other side of the river the panoramic view was romantic and very surprising, as Andrea Russo from Italy

stated.

"I did have a plan to go to Riverside but when I was on my way, the pier in Kangaroo Point was closed and so was

the one at Victoria

Bridge too. So my partner and I decided to watch the awesome fireworks from Kangaroo Point Cliffs. The fireworks

were synchronized throughout the city. From where we were, I was able to see fireworks from many different

places. Also, the heart-shaped fireworks in the sky were amazing.  For me the best moment was in the beginning

when the Super Hornet aircraft came to open the celebration and then very quickly flew up into the sky. The light

show was a really good experience. Where I live, in Milano, we have fireworks for the New Year’s but it is very

different. Firstly, the weather is not the same. No one can stay out for a long time to watch because it is very

cold and second it's not synchronized like here. I haven't seen anything like this before" said Andrea Russo.
