New rules about alcohol coming up this week

From July clubs and pubs will be obligated to stop serving alcohol from 2am

This week start a new month, with it a new law about alcohol. From next Friday, July 1, liquor service hours will be reduced to 2am state-wide, except in safe night precincts where alcohol can be served until 3am. The new laws intended to block alcohol-related violence.

According to the government, "Rapid intoxication drinks" will be banned from the Cinderella hour, are included "shots, shooters, bombs, blasters, test tubes and jelly shots", pre-mixed drinks with more than 5 per cent alcohol volume and drinks with more than 45 ml of sprit or liqueur.

The ban will not include cocktails, since they are listed on a cocktail menu, are not designed to be consumed rapidly and are not sold for less than the price listed on the cocktail menu.

In Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, the most famous night area, will have last drinks called at 3am. From February next year, there will be a 1am lockout in those designated nightlife precincts. Until there, the businesses will have more time to prepare and familiarize with the new rules.
