MELBOURNE FILMOTECA: A space for Spain and Latin America

Melbourne Filmoteca is an independent, non-profit, volunteer-run group which aims to provide a space for people with a broad range of interests and backgrounds to appreciate not only film and video from the regions, but also the language, music and cultures of Spain and Latin America. It holds monthly screenings of Latin American and Spanish film at ACMI cinemas (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) in Federation Square, Melbourne.

This program strives to provide films that truly represent the diversity of the multiculturalist experience that is the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world. This is the only organization that showcases films from and fro the Hispanic community and it offers an online record of the films screened since 1999, when Melbourne Filmoteca was created

The next screening is a Venezuelan trailer called “Postales de Leningrado” which tells the story of guerrilla members and how they face different challenges within their family whilst the try to survive times of political crisis. The film is directed by Mariana Rendon and was Venezuela’s entry for the for the Best Foreign Language Film of the 80th Academy Awards.
