Latin theatre arts gaining traction across Australia

Over the past decade, the Latin influence on major cities accords the world, including Brisbane, has continued to grow.

With specialised schools for dance, acting and the arts catering to the Latin community, art projects around Queensland are in full-swing for the new year.

2021 saw Australia once again host the Moro Spanish Film Festival across seven major Australian cities, including Brisbane.

Not only is Latin theatre being presented in niche festival settings, but more Latin productions are hitting the big screens.

With Encanto soon to be released in cinemas, Latin families will be able to once again see themselves represented and celebrated on the big screen.

Over the past few years, groundbreaking productions representing the Latin community and movies created by Latin minds have been released worldwide, including Coco and Spider-man Into the Spider- Verse, which both have Latino leads.

These productions, when made with the input of Latin communities, continue to celebrate the reach of Latin culture throughout the community and create awareness of the richly diverse world around us.
