Foreigners can apply for working in Australia Census of Population

Census will take place on 9^th August and applications can be made until 29 May.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is seeking 38,000 people to join their team and work for the Field Officer in the 2016 Census of Population and Housing, which will be held on Tuesday 9th August.

To apply for the job, the candidate have the legal right to work in Australia, needs to have a current driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

According to ABS website, all community of Non-English speaking is encouraged to apply.  The payment is $21.61 per hour and applications can be made in the following link (http://www.abs.gov.au/websitedbs/censushome.nsf/home/newsboard160502) until 29 May.

All available positions are casual with flexible working hours, including some evening and weekend work. For successful applicants, duties will include undertake a range of set procedural, operational and administrative activities, read and navigate maps and making contact with households encouraging online census response. Due to the nature of the work involved, workers will need to have a computer, access to the internet and a mobile device like a smartphone or tablet.

The total hours of work will vary from 60 up to 150 hours over the period of employment and the successful applicants may be required to work on weekdays and weekends up to 8:30 pm. Online and face-to-face training will be provided between 14th July and 11th August 2016, but the candidates need to be available to work from July to September 2016.

The selection process will include the assessments of all applications and weighting will be given to proximity to the work area, availability and particular skills required for targeted positions. The second stage is based on interviews and the third involve police check and pre-employment medical.

About the Census

The Census aims to accurately measure the number of people in Australia and their key characteristics. This information provides a reliable basis for estimating the population of each state, territory and local government area, primarily for planning purposes. The 2016 Census will be the first one in Australia which more than two thirds of the residents are expected to complete it online.
