Fees for International Students on the Rise

International students coming from South America, China, and other parts of the world looking for quality education and overseas experiences can expect a rise in fees to Australian Universities. Australia is therefore quickly becoming the most expensive place in the world to study.

With the liberal government in action, Universities all over Australia are copping it: rising fees, staff cut backs, and plans to have students pay back their HECS loans quicker and with interest.

If Australia wanted to be America, where higher education is for the elite who can afford it, it seems we’re headed in that direction. Now international students are going to face rising fees as well. For 2015, the University of Queensland has stated that flat tuition fees for international students of $10,820 per semester must be paid up front.

Arguably, Australian university standards are dropping. Many students feel that Australian universities are becoming more like degree factories rather than institutions of learning and critical analysis. So, what does that mean for international students? Many international students that come to Australia seeking higher quality education may not be getting their money’s worth in the future.
