Dine out with Red and White: authentic Peruvian

Brisbane has a glut of delicious restaurants that serve unique and tempting Latino dishes. It seems at the moment that there is a Mexican burrito restaurant on every corner, and the Brazillian and Colombian venues are tying for second place in popularity. But South America is vast, and its cuisine from country to country is infinite. Red and White Restaurant, tucked away on Melbourne St in South Brisbane, is quietly, and elegantly representing Peru and serving some of its signature scrumptious dishes.

Johann Castro, from Lima, Peru established the restaurant in 2010 with the help of his partner and mother.  The restaurant’s name is derived from the colours of the Peruvian flag, and the pride this represents echoes throughout the whole establishment. Castro is keen to bring authentic Peruvian flavours to Red and White, and emphasise Charlacca gastronomy in his dishes.

On offer on the menu is a delicious selection of empanadas, ceviche, Lomo Soltado, and, for the brave amongst you, a leche de tigre shot (literally translated as ‘milk of the tiger’) which, with its combination of fish and lime juice, and authentic spices, promises to fortify the hungover and the tentative. Prices range from $8-$22 and there is a dessert menu as well that offers addictive dolce de leche ice cream.
