COLOMBIANS WELCOME THEIR NATIONAL FESTIVITIES THIS WEEKEND

Colombian Independence day is almost upon us. Come the 20^th of July Colombians around the world will celebrate their heritage and freedom with pride, passion and plenty of rhythm. Brisbane’s Colombian community is no exception. Colombians are renowned for their warmth and vivacity, and you, our readers, wherever you are from, are welcome to join in the festivities.

There are a variety of events being held throughout town:

On Friday, the celebration takes off at The Jubilee Hotel in Fortitude Valley at 9pm. The party is organized by Rumba Latina and will have live Colombian bands, exclusive DJs and performances. Then on Saturday, the celebration continues at the Spanish Club in Acacia Ridge, where family activities promise to entertain all the visitors the whole day. The highlight will be the The Colombian Soccer Cup "El Clasico" where The Latin Brothers face The Latin Golden Boys in a friendly soccer game at 3pm. There will be stalls offering traditional food, beverages and light meals after 3pm. Then, later at night they will have the performance of La Tropa Latina, The Latin All Stars and even Mariachis. To finish off the weekend, The GPO’s Colombian street party will start at midday on Sunday, in the Valley. It will be a huge event featuring dynamic music, delicious food, and a flood of drinks and dancing. Nova Radio’s Kip and Luttsy will put in an appearance and the party will continue all night long. This is Brisbane’s first street festival to celebrate Colombian independence, and is sure to be a thrill for everyone – young and old alike.
