Brisbane is not going into lockdown -yet

On September 28th, Queensland has recorded four new local COVID-19 cases. But we are not going into lockdown just yet. According to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, “there’s no need to panic”  and we are not going into lockdown “at this stage”. 

However, restrictions have been tightened in South-East Queensland as the use of facemasks indoors at all times is mandatory as well as the use of masks in outdoor situations where it is not possible to socially distance. 

It has been verified by health authorities that at least one of the new cases had been infectious within the community 3 days. 

This case is of a man who was fully vaccinated and works in an aviation training centre. He is said to have had both doses but had only received the second a few days before testing positive. His wife also tested positive.

Another case is of a truck driver who is believed to have been infectious in the community for about a week. 

The fourth and last case was of an individual who finalised their hotel quarantine but tested positive after leaving. 

Currently, Sunday’s NRL Grand Final at Suncorp Stadium is still on and it is expected to hold around 45,000 spectators. However, the next 48 hours will be crucial towards the decision of canceling the event or even snapping QLD into another lockdown.

Contact tracers have managed to track the possible source of the aviation case and are still racing to track the source for the truck driver.
