Brisbane International Festival brings free performances for music fans

Event happens until Sunday 12 June and will be attended by local artists

Brisbane will host its 4th International Jazz Festival, from 7 to 12 June.

The event will bring famous and word-acclaimed names of the genre as Marcus Strickland, the New York musician, and local jazz heroes, like Sandy Evans, Andrea Keller and Angela Davis, that are going to show concert for the finale of the Women in Jazz celebration in Saturday 11 June.

Some presentations are free and others require the purchase of tickets, ranging from $10 to $32.

One of the free performances is Mal Wood’s Bowery Hot 5’s show that is going to take place in 8 June, at 9pm, at the Bowery, in Ann Street. Mal Wood and his partners are going to present a line-up of Brisbane finest jazz musicians presenting fresh renditions of the great jazz standards full of humour and soul. This event is for free.

At 9 June, the Braben-Jenner Hot Five, the latest musical collaboration between Andy Jenner (reeds) and John Braben (trumpet), will plays the music of early 20th century America. The performance is going to be hold in the Brisbane Jazz Club, in Annie Street, Kangaroo Point, at 7:30pm.

Tristan Rogers, who has recently completed his Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU) ,will do a live music performance at 10 June, in the Queensland Performing Art Centre Green, at 5:30pm, with free entry.

On Saturday, 11 June, the Parmis Rose & The Beauty School Dropouts are going to give to the audience the best of Jazz and Pop, in creatively complex sounds everyone can enjoy. The presentation is going to happen in The Queensland Multicultural Centre Auditorium, at 7:30pm, and the tickets are being sold on event’s website for $32.
