Those living in Australia who still hasn’t come across the Aussie "barbecue" have not been initiated into a big part of Aussie life. However, when I arrived in Australia I heard many complaints from fellow Latinos about the Aussie barbecue. So I grabbed my notepad and went to investigate what's so different between the Brazilian barbecue and Australian barbecue.

To start this conversation we will detail both. Barbecue is the name given to a dish made of roasted meat on fire or embers, with the use of wooden poles or metal (called skewers) or grids, it consists of good quality beef, sausage, chicken and baked garlic bread. In Brazil it is usually served with rice, vinaigrette and cassava.

Australian Barbecue

To explain the Aussie BBQ, I asked for the help of Australian architect Sarah Zahradnik, 26.

For her, the biggest difference between the two barbecues in the meat. "Basically the Aussie BBQ is done on an electric grill that is quite common in parks here. Usually we prepare sausage, steak, rissoles, chicken, onions, potatoes and carrots.”

She points out that you can include a side of pasta salad, potato salad or bread.

Brazilian Barbecue

For the Brazilian student Danilo Carvalho 30, the two BBQ’s are very different both in their methods of preparation as well as ingredients. He believes there is no comparison between them.

"I think there is no better or worse, but I prefer the Brazilian barbecue. But, I understand that the different meats and methods change everything," he concludes.

The team at Gringo News think the two barbecues are both delightful and are worth trying for their contrasting flavours. After all, isn’t this exactly why we’re living in a different country, to explore the contrasting cultures and flavours?

Are you ready to try this delight? Here's a tip:
