Australian Netflix offers national productions

Service is a good option for Latin community to get in touch with Australian's movies

For all Latin community that has been living in Australia, one option of home entertainment is Netflix, the world-renowned streaming program, which offers movies, TV series and documentaries.

The Australian version includes popular original series such as Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, along with a number produced originally for the Australian market like The Hunter, Storm Surfers, and Wake in Fright among others.

To access the service here in Australia, users need to pay $8.99 per month for the entry-level that allows only one screen to stream in standard definition at any one time. There is also a plan for $11.99, which allows high-definition streaming to up to two screens. A third plan, costing $14.99, will allow streaming of the highest quality content, 4K, to up to four screens.

Compared to the service in USA, Australian's Nextflix hold around six times as less content, which corresponds to around 1100 titles versus over 7000. Due to this, it is estimated that over 200,000 Australians have been accessing Netflix from the United States using VPN to hide their IP address. The service was launched here on March 2015.

The competition

At the time of Netflix’s launch, Australia already had others subscription streaming media services, such as Quickflix, Presto and Stan. All services offer 30-day free trials, but the difference between prices are not significantly.

Presto offers package for movies that cost $9.99, but to get access to both TV service and movies, users need to pay $14.99 per month. Meanwhile, Stan’s services can be purchased for $10 monthly, including TV and movies as well. Another competitor in the Australian market, Quickflix offers its streaming video on demand service for $9.99 a month with a 14-day free trial.
