Australia has Started to Drop Aid to Thousands of Iraqi Refugees

AUSTRALIA has dropped by air the first lot of aid into Iraq.  The

mission to help Iraq started by dropping humanitarian supplies to

thousands of Iraqis who have fled Islamic State terrorists in Iraq.

Australian army has carried out the first of the tasks as they promised,

and as they were requested.

“To the best of my knowledge, that has gone seamlessly, and once

again I pay tribute to the crew of our C 130 Hercules who have specialist skills in doing this sort of work, and I’m very proud of them”,

Tony Abbott said.

The aid was delivered on the form of 10 pallets of much needed supplies; they were dropped to Yezidi civilians trapped on Mount Sinjar

by encircling ISIL forces. The content of the supply boxes included 150 boxes of high energy biscuits and 340 boxes of bottled water –

enough to sustain 3,700 people for 24 hours. Each aid pallet was fitted with specially designed parachutes to make sure they landed

safely.

The Australian army mission is continuing but the government does not believe there would be any need for them to assist in escorting

refugees out of northern Iraq.

Australian personnel was visited by Mr Tony Abbott in the UAE to give a hint of support.

Mr Abbott said the air drops will continue “until the security of the Yezidi civilians is assured and they can safely move from Mount

Sinjar”.

“This is a humanitarian cause and Australia has a long and distinguished tradition of assisting people in need,” “All Australians can be

proud of the work of the Australian Defence Force,” Prime Minister Tony Abbott said.
